One of the first Natural Burial Grounds in the country

A three acre site where a wide variety of over 600 trees and shrubs have been planted to mark graves. There is a mown pathway that runs around the burial ground, and a small brook running down one edge. It is peaceful and quiet and attracts a lot of wildlife and birds.

The available options here are plots where you can have a shrub or a wildflower mix planted. You can also have a stone plaque to mark the grave.

Location & Directions

The site lies between the villages of Ulley and Aston-cum-Aughton, in Rotherham

Finding the site

The South Yorkshire Woodland Burial Ground is located to the east of Sheffield, halfway down a small country lane connecting the villages of Ulley and Aston-cum-Aughton. (The lane is called Turnshaw Road at its Ulley end, and Ulley Lane at the Aston end.) Nearest postcoded address is S26 3YG.

The site can be visited all year round and there is a pedestrian access gate that is always unlocked. There is a parking area on the lane, outside the burial ground. Inside there is more parking which is used when funerals are in progress.
